Anna believes it’s an exciting time to be a structural engineer, as the industry oversees a significant shift towards low carbon design. Engineers must offer ways to optimise structure from the outset of a project, and she’s up for the challenge.
The architectural engineering course Anna studied at university centred on an interdisciplinary design process, providing her with an understanding of how architecture, building services, and structure must work together to produce the best design responses.
For Anna, the opportunity to collaborate and share ideas is highly rewarding. There’s a fizz that comes from working with enthusiastic and knowledgeable teams, one that exceeds what can be achieved by one person working in isolation.
As someone who enjoys all kinds of outdoor adventure, dependant on open spaces, fresh air, and biodiversity, Anna considers it ever necessary to ensure that buildings are designed with elegance, enhancing their site context, and limiting their environmental impact.
