A Room for London, London

The competition winning 'Roi des Belges' is a self-contained apartment that can be booked for one night stays. It sits on the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Hall overlooking the Thames. The boat is a steel framed structure supporting the timber and plywood decks and façades. An aluminium hull and steel mast add to the nautical feel. Bespoke steel spreader beams under the boat stabilise it and transfer its weight into concrete walls of the auditorium structure below.

Completed 2012.
