Bloom, Tokyo

This sculpture is made up of elliptical layers of hollow aluminium bricks, cut from extruded sections. Each layer is twisted by 4.5 degrees to create an undulating form. The aluminium bricks are glued together to allow them to have an anodised finish. A stainless steel internal structure pre-stresses the 6.5m tall sculpture to resist earthquake and typhoon loading.

Completed 2007.
