‘Masterclasses in Sitting, The Last Chair Arch’, High Wycombe

This sculpture is inspired by chair arches, made by furniture makers in High Wycombe since Victorian times, but normally supported by scaffolding. The 168 chairs are arranged to work together structurally and form a semi-circular arch. Three different chair types were developed and lock together in a three dimensional lattice. On completion of the installation the chairs were given to the volunteers who helped build the arch and the local community.

Completed 2015.
