Deal Pier Café, Kent

This café replaced an existing building at the end of the existing 1950s concrete and steel pier. The structure is made from Iroko spars joined by stainless steel plates to make timber portal frames that are expressed architecturally and repeated along the building. Salt and extreme storm conditions make the site very hostile. The use of a durable hardwood and stainless steel help the building withstand the highly corrosive atmosphere.

Completed 2008.
