Meads Reach Bridge, Bristol

A competition winning design for 55m span footbridge over Bristol's floating harbour. The structure is a portal frame with a stainless steel stressed skin. Laser cut perforations in this skin reveal the inner ribbed structure at night when the bridge is internally illuminated, to make the bridge as transparent as possible, the size of the perforations varies according to the stress levels across the bridge. The skewing surfaces of the structure were designed to allow them to be developed into flat sheets for fabrication.

Completed 2008.
