The Velvet Mill, Bradford

The penthouse pods for this residential conversion of a former silk weaving mill in Bradford were designed with a woven, looping form in recognition of the building's industrial heritage. The resulting double curved geometry was built using a kit of plywood CNC cut roof panels that we designed specifically for the project. The parts are pre slotted so that they can be assembled without jigs in the correct form. Steel edge frames and a new composite steel and concrete slab support the roof and transfer loads into the existing masonry piers of the building.

Completed 2010.
