Vertical Shell, Southbank Tower, London

Vertical Shell is based on an enlarged fragment of shell found by the artist on a beach. Its sliced form is constructed from 3mm thick fins of anodised aluminium, which cantilever ten metres up from the floor of the refurbished lobby. Each individual plate would be far too slender to support itself over this height but working together the fins form a stable structure. The sculpture is supported on a hidden base plate that is concealed within a thin floor finishes build up allowing it to emerge seamlessly from the floor.

Completed 2015.
