Peveril Gardens and Studios, designed with Sanchez Benton Architects in collaboration with artist Gabriel Kuri and horticulturalist Nigel Dunnett, is one of the projects shortlisted for this year’s Stephen Lawrence Prize.
Established in 1998 in memory of Stephen Lawrence, the Prize rewards the best projects with a construction budget of less than £1 million. This year, judges focused on the climate-conscious ethos and the community-fostering elements of the projects shortlisted.
Working with Sanchez Benton Architects, we transformed an existing podium terrace on the edge of Bricklayers Arms roundabout in Southwark into a public garden, and converted some neglected garages into a mix of studios and communal space. The result is a thriving community space for local residents.
The project was awarded a RIBA London Award and a RIBA London Project Architect of the Year Award earlier this year.
