Brook House Studios, Lewes | Field Architecture

Encompassing structural ingenuity, environmental responsiveness and a clear sense of spatial drama, this conversion of a 19th-century barn into a live work studio for a sculptor is an exemplary scheme on many levels. The adaptation reworks and opens up the building’s structure with a new stressed-skin timber roof. Pragmatism is combined with poetry in a project that invigorates a redundant yet still useable building and enriches the lives of its artist users.
