Civic Trust Award, Commendation

Talacre Community Sports Centre, London | David Morley Architects

The centre, supported by £3.46m lottery funding from Sport England, was the first new sports venue to be built by Camden Council since 1964, opening its doors to the public in November 2004.
Since then 360,000 people have used its facilities, including the floodlit Astroturf pitch, state-of-the-art gymnastics hall, multi-purpose sports hall and Treetops multi-layered soft play centre for Under 11s. Children, young people and adults have taken part in a wide range of activities including after school and holiday sports schemes, specialist gymnastic training, fitness classes and sessions for the Over 50s. This year Talacre Community Sports Centre gained national recognition for its excellent design in the 2004 Civic Trust Awards, as well as a commendation in the Camden Design Awards.
