Brewhouse Education Centre, Burghley House, Lincolnshire | Richard Griffiths Architects

The Brewhouse Education Centre at Burghley house is the first new construction project to take place within the grounds of Burghley since the early 1800s. This was, in effect, two projects in one, making use of the existing Brewhouse Building, which dates back to the mid 18th Century, alongside the construction of a new contemporary entrance pavilion of glass, steel and oak. Between the buildings, a new oak boarded staircase and life allows visitor access to the first floor of the Brewhouse without affecting the listed interior of the building. Construction required a true mixture of traditional and modern skills, with Collyweston Stone slaters and lime plasterers working alongside steel erectors and stainless steel roofers. The end result provides state of the art classroom and exhibition facilities nestled within ancient surroundings.
