Peabody Avenue, London | Haworth Tompkins Architects

Peabody Avenue has been returned to its pre war-damaged state. The new five-storey-high blocks, organised around three vertical circulation cores, are built in warm, yellow stock bricks with windows well set back into reveals to acknowledge the robust nature of the existing avenue. To the rear, generous balconies cantilever from the circulation walkway and enliven the view from the railway and embankment.
The new building displays the strength, resilience and confidence of the existing structure and is an exemplar of good housing and place-making.
