New Horizon Youth Centre, London | Adam Khan Architects

Founded in 1968 by the late Lord Longford, New Horizon Youth Centre is a day centre working with young people who are vulnerable, homeless or at risk in King's Cross. New Horizon offers a supportive environment and channels young people towards productive lifestyles and occupation.
The purpose of the competition was to investigate opportunities for the Centre to deliver its mission as effectively as possible in the future from its existing headquarters, by the adaptation of its existing space.
The winning scheme combines thoughtfulness for the institution with direct and legible architectural ideas. Centred on the concept of Home, and how to invest an institutional building with Adam Khan's nurturing qualities, it offers flexibility and the ease and generosity of a welcoming, settled house.
