Colyer Fergusson Music Building, University of Kent, Canterbury | Tim Ronalds Architects

The Colyer-Fergusson Building houses a recital room which is open to anyone in the University of Kent to play or listen. Its foyer is used as an extension to the neighbouring Gulbenkian Arts Centre. Two of the external elevations sit well in the building’s unpromising environment, while the third stands out with an elegant timber and metal-clad canopy. The pebble and flint-faced blockwork is derived from existing blocks of the Gulbenkian. It is warm, strong and entirely appropriate.
