RIBA South East Award

Private House, West Sussex | Wilkinson King Architects

The new house replaces an unremarkable 1950s brick cottage. Planning was constrained as it was not possible to alter or extend the existing residential curtilage nor was the new building to be taller than the existing house.
The brief was for a contemporary country house that would sit and weather well in the landscape and respond to the materiality of the tree lined site and its rural setting. There were to be 4 bedrooms with open plan living all with views to the Downs. The house was to be accessible so that it could be enjoyed for years to come.
