Royal Central School of Speech and Drama
London

New drama studios and office space for The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama at Swiss Cottage. The project squeezed the most out of a tight site by stacking five double-height studios vertically, creating a 10-storey building with two levels sunk into the ground behind a contiguous piled basement wall.

Fitting in the office levels alongside the studios with adequate ceiling height required minimal structural zones, exposed concrete soffits and highly efficient services coordination.

The drama studios are isolated from each other by resilient 'box-in-box' acoustic separation and incorporate state of the art theatre technical and television studio equipment. We have been working on this site, formerly the Central School of Speech and Drama, since 1992.

Completed 2019.
