Two terraced houses on Glebe Place within the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea had been combined into one house by the previous owner.
Our work involved major alterations to the old Victorian Artist Studios which included the transformation of the ground floor into one large open plan space and the addition of a full basement across the footprint of the building. The alterations above ground included the clearance of the internal structure and therefore the introduction of some major beams.
Works to the ground floor level were undertaken first to provide a large clear space for the basement to be constructed, with the party walls and the front façade underpinned. A central feature staircase using timber, steel and glass links the mezzanine level, ground floor, and the basement space.
