Attenborough Visitor Centre, Nottinghamshire

Situated on an island within the Attenborough Nature Reserve, this award-winning environmentally friendly visitor centre incorporates a variety of energy saving technologies and is built almost entirely from sustainable materials. Constructed on reclaimed land in old gravel workings, the glulam-framed building supports two roofs that slope upwards from the centre, like wings in flight. The structure includes a long ramp to bring visitors across the water and a lift bridge to help secure the building at night.

Completed 2005.
