Blakenhall Neighbourhood Centre, Wolverhampton

This new neighbourhood building provides a multi-purpose centre for community activities including social events, sports recreation and learning. It has high sustainability credentials including an untreated timber frame of prefabricated panels and glulam portals. This not only gives the building a warm feel, with the natural timber exposed in many locations, but also has a low embodied energy and is very air tight allowing close control of ventilation and therefore heat loss. The building is partially clad in Corten steel which is self finished requiring little maintenance.

Completed 2010.
