Coin Street Housing, London

A community building with a wide range of accommodation including a nursery, crèche, community café, training and enterprise facilities, retail space, offices and a roof garden. The building has five storeys, one of which is below ground and links through to the underground car park below the Iroko housing. The foundations are reinforced concrete pads cast onto mass concrete blocks. These mass blocks were placed underwater using a tremie pipe to displace the tidal groundwater and form a dry base for the main footing. The structure is cast insitu concrete throughout with shear walls for lateral stability. Waterproof concrete, using the Everdure Caltite system was used in several locations, including an exposed stair at roof level.

Completed 2007.
