Craig Park Youth Centre, London

This well used 1970s youth centre was in need of a renovation and extension. MyPlace funding has made this possible. Much of the original two-storey building is retained with the single storey element replaced with a new two-storey extension. The desire to create dramatic cantilevering forms led us to use storey depth steel framing allowing us to create very stiff frames with minimal impact on structural depth. A new climbing tower runs up a lightwell in the centre of the original building. The entire building is clad in translucent cladding which emphasises the form at night.

Completed 2013.
