Hoyle Early Learning Centre, Lancashire

An interesting enlargement of an existing nursery school. This involved the demolition of two small previous additions to the original main building and then building a new teaching block linked to the existing through a glass framed library while creating an internal courtyard. The new metal clad, steel-framed roof above celestorey glazing unifies the new and refurbished blocks. At one end of the refurbished block the roof has a large overhang to create external play space. The elevations are rendered to the east and dry stone wallings to the west.

Completed 2003.
