Kielder Water Pavilions, Northumbria

Freya’s cabin stands alone on a remote sloping site; one of a series of pavilions commissioned to create a number of destination points for walkers and cyclists around the reservoir of Kielder Water. Randomly placed slender steel stems rise out of the ground to support the cabin. Plywood sheets are CNC cut to create the envelope, with benches to the side and trees overhead. These are bolted together like a flower press and wrapped in a golden metal sheet to protect them from the weather.

Completed 2009.
