Link Bridge, Chetham's Music School, Manchester

This 40m long link bridge is shaped by a number of unusual constraints that include needing to span over a culverted river. The bridge is divided into two spans with the majority of the load being directed into the newly built music building's structure, to both save costs and avoid foundation problems caused by the river below. Its tapered shape, made in 8mm Corten steel, is a reflection of the forces generated by these support conditions.

Completed 2012.
