Magdalen College School, Oxford

The two-storey roof top extension is built over an existing changing block and gymnasium. It accommodates a multi-purpose sports hall, classroom and support facilities. Lightweight glulam construction was used as the primary structure and the series of ribs dominate the interior hall space. Precast concrete blade columns transfer the new building loads away from the existing structure. The building is clad in semi-transparent materials to allow users to benefit from natural daylight and exposed glulam beams provide an open-plan layout.

Completed 2012.
