Oak Meadow School, Wolverhampton

A new all timber framed school built over abandoned mine workings where playing fields had been previously. We were appointed to provide both structural and civil consultancy services. The construction was phased to allow the new building to be occupied before demolition of the existing school and subsequent landscaping. The school has been built to the PassivHaus standard which requires the structure be very carefully detailed with no cold bridging, even at the foundations. Due to the history of the site, piles could not be used so vibro stone columns were installed. Drainage design incorporates a range of SUDS techniques and limits the run-off to greenfield rates.

Completed 2012.
