Private House, Clapton, London

This terraced house in Clapton suffered badly from WWII bomb damage, and was poorly repaired in the 1950s. The project involved turning the house upside down, creating a large open plan living space at first floor level opening onto a roof terrace, and bedrooms below. The lower rooms retain some of the original finishes and details, while the upper level is almost completely rebuilt with a new roof formed from economical trussed rafters, carefully detailed and exposed to view.

Completed 2015.
