Saladworks, Oak Spinney Park, Leicester

New factory built on a greenfield site for the production of pre-packed salads and sandwiches for sale by major supermarkets. Price & Myers responsible for all civil and structural design which included; a steel framed 4,200 sq m production building with tapered 30m span walk-through roof trusses 6m above the main production floor; a steel framed 2,000 sq m two-storey amenity building housing offices, restaurant and changing rooms. The structure consists of insitu composite first floor, pitched steel-framed roofs and timber-clad masonry elevations; a steel framed 500 sq m two-storey Energy Building housing the plant for the steam and ammonia used within the production building; approximately 7,000 sq m of external yards, roads and car parks, including a gatehouse, and all associated drainage. Storm water discharge was attenuated through two open ponds also acting as environmental amenities.
