Skypad: Teenage Cancer Trust Unit, Cardiff

This project at the University Hospital of Wales provides the first dedicated unit in Wales for teenagers with cancer. The ten-bed building is squeezed into a small space between two large 1960s blocks and over the hospital’s main service tunnel. The two-storey building is supported on stilts; with large cantilevers above these supports. Careful design was required to ensure that such a complex building could be constructed in such a tight ‘land locked’ site.

Completed 2008.
