St Mary de Haura, Shoreham

The rebuilding of the five bay medieval vault over the choir at St Mary's in Shoreham. Monitoring and reconstruction of sections of the church vaulting and stone ribs was carried out after areas of the vaulting has become unstable. Salt damage, the installation of central heating and poor original construction are thought to have contributed to the problems. The church vaulting has been replaced by the coursed chalk. The work was carried out in two phases, the first was completed in 2003, and the second phase, having attracted a substantial English Heritage/Heritage Lottery Fund Joint Scheme grant, was completed in 2005.
