Sustainable Research Building, University of Nottingham

A new three story steel framed research building for the Department of the Built Environment within the School of Architecture. The building has exposed concrete finishing and glazing fixed directly on to the steel frame. Where possible local sources were used to supply materials, and environmentally friendly, energy conserving details such as grey water recycling, extensive use of natural ventilation and lighting, and a roof covered in photovoltaic cells have been included. A wind turbine was later added on a platform over the North stair tower in 2005.

Completed 2003.
