Turning The Place Over, Liverpool

Installation by well known British sculptor Richard Wilson, whose work regularly draws inspiration from engineering and architecture. Turning The Place Over has been created by cutting a six metre diameter virtual tube at an angle of 50 degrees through the façade and into the structure of the old Yates Wine Lodge in the centre of Liverpool. The façade was removed, fixed onto the steel framed ovoid, and then mounted onto a spindle. The installation is mechanically operated to spin and oscillate in three dimensions giving the illusion that the building is being turned inside out. Work was completed in summer 2007 and will be in place throughout Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture 2008.

Completed 2010.
