VXO House, Hampstead

This project involved the extensive refurbishment of a 1960s house in Hampstead. The front extension is a timber clad cube supported on a ‘V’ shaped column. A suspended staircase leads to the fully glazed ground floor which has unobstructed views to the landscaped garden, connecting the internal and external areas. The existing house was opened up to provide flowing living spaces and a double height glass roofed gallery over the dining area. Opposite the main ‘V’ house is the ‘X’ pavilion: a glass roofed garden structure housing the gymnasium and guest facilities. The garage at the entrance to the site has a folded roof supported on two frames with an ‘O’ shaped column.

Completed 2000.
