Dining Hall, The Queen's College, Oxford

An extension to the existing basement kitchen for Queen’s College, to create additional space and a more rational layout. The work included refurbishment of the basement level shower area, and a new basement level link to the wine cellar. The ground floor Buttery and adjacent rooms have also being converted into a café. The improvements were achieved by supporting the Grade I listed façade on new columns to open up the space within the extended basement. This required careful planning and monitoring during construction to safeguard the stonework. Arches thought to have been designed by Hawksmoor were revealed during the demolition work and are now a feature of the new servery.

Completed 2010.
