Anerley Road, London

Price & Myers Sustainability were appointed to assist in the design of two new low impact homes in South London. On this tight backlands site we worked with the architects to design two attractive sustainable houses which achieved Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5. The buildings were designed to Lifetimes Homes Standard and have a timber frame construction incorporating high performance thermal insulation made from recycled newspaper, which has very low embodied carbon. The extremely low U-values and air-permeability levels result in a very efficient thermal envelope. Biomass boilers fuelled by wood pellets were identified as the most appropriate heating technology and these together with photovoltaic panels reduce CO2 emissions by more than 60%. Other design features include low environmental impact materials, high levels of natural daylightings and ventilation, green roofs, water efficient appliances and SUDS.
