Carlton House, London

The Carlton House project involved the refurbishment of an existing building in central London to provide 8,000 sq m of new high-grade offices. We were appointed to provide both sustainability and structural consultancy services. Price & Myers Sustainability acted as BREEAM Consultants for the project providing tailored advice to help ensure that the sustainable features of the development were maximised and the most cost effective credits to achieve an ‘Excellent’ rating were identified. Optimisation of the re-use and upgrade of the existing fabric ensures greater life cycle performance of the building due to reduced use of resources. The city centre location presented conflicting issues of acoustics and ventilation, so high efficiency ventilation and cooling is provided via air source heat pumps through a VRF system. We worked closely with the contractors, BWI, throughout the construction stages to ensure the BREEAM requirements were fulfilled in the final building. The offices were completed in September 2012 and were certified BREEAM 'Excellent'.
