Dagenham Library, Dagenham

As part of a large mixed-use development forming the regeneration of Dagenham Heathway, Price & Myers Sustainability were appointed to carry out a bespoke BREEAM assessment for a new library and 'one stop shop'. Working closely with the design team and Bouygues UK to provide a sustainability strategy for the development, a BREEAM 'Very Good' rating was ultimately achieved. The energy performance of the building was significantly better than best practice and by utilising a biomass boiler and gas fired boiler system in combination with a high performing building fabric the development achieved a 31% saving in CO2 emissions. The library also performed exceptionally well in the Management section of the BREEAM assessment, using the building as a learning resource for staff and visitors and in complying with sustainable practices during construction.
