Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool

The existing 1992 Peter Moores Wing extension to the rear of the Grade II* listed Liverpool Philharmonic Hall required replacement in order to provide a modern facility with substantially improved office and backstage areas as well as a public venue and performance space provision. We were appointed to provide both sustainability and structural consultancy services. Price & Myers Sustainability provided early advice on the most appropriate application of the environmental assessment methodology to the development, and undertook a workshop with the design team to discuss the BREEAM criteria in detail and how this could best be utilised to assess the project. The project was looked at in two sections; new build and refurbishment. The extent, type and vision of works being undertaken for each was assessed separately to understand how incorporating sustainable design and the BREEAM methodology would most benefit the scheme. In this way, we developed a cost effective strategy for the development, which the design team embedded in their designs and specification. We provided on-going advice on the design to facilitate the incorporation and development of the BREEAM criteria to achieve the targeted 'Very Good' rating for the project. In particular, we have assisted the design team with compliant material selection and lighting design.
