Torquay House, London

The London Hostels Association project is a new 13-storey, 157 room building providing low cost short-term accommodation for workers and students. The rooms are a combination of micro flats, en-suite rooms and accessible rooms. Price & Myers provided the Sustainability and Structural Engineering Consultancy. Our Sustainability team were appointed to carry out a BREEAM assessment and support the design team in reaching a ‘Very Good’ rating. Involved in the project from the early stages of design and through designing in measures, we were able to support the design team in exceeding expectations by achieving an 'Excellent' rating at the design stage assessment. This was achieved as a result of the building performing strongly in the Management, Materials and Energy section and through the use of a gas fired CHP system, which achieved a 35% reduction in carbon emissions. Low energy lighting fitted with intelligent lighting controls and low flow water fittings have also been included to further improve the sustainable credentials of the building.

Completed 2015.
