Sarah Liu
BEng
Structural Engineer

Sarah didn’t always plan on becoming an engineer- it was a school careers adviser who first suggested it, spotting her strength in maths and science. After trying out a few different areas through internships, it was structural engineering that stuck, offering the right mix of creativity, problem-solving, and technical challenge.

She spent nearly four years building her experience in New Zealand, working on seismic assessments, strengthening projects, and new builds in high-risk zones. Now based in the UK, she’s enjoying the shift in focus—from earthquakes to architectural heritage—and is particularly drawn to projects involving historic structures with cultural significance.
