Ingenuity Centre
University of Nottingham

The University of Nottingham Innovation Park Ingenuity Centre is on the Jubilee Campus, situated adjacent to the River Leen on a site historically occupied by the Raleigh bicycle factory. The three-storey circular building contains a mix of open-plan hot desk areas and private offices for technology start-up businesses, along with a café, seminar rooms, and an ‘idea space’ in the full-height central atrium. The atrium aids ventilation and reduces cooling loads.

The design also incorporates a distinctive steel and aluminium brise-soleil structure which wraps around the building exterior.

We were appointed by the Design & Build contractor post-tender to undertake value engineering to determine the possibility of reducing build costs. One of the changes we suggested was to redesign the originally proposed concrete frame as a steel framed structure, with composite floor slabs which saved significant cost and time on site.

The project uses sustainable technologies and is BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rated.

Completed 2016.
