Any building project takes a lot of investment – time, money, expertise, patience. The pay-off is the finished object, a place that offers tangible benefits to the people who use it and live with it. For Shaun, seeing one of his projects finally take form is the source of immense pride.
‘I love being able to point to a skyline or a street and pick out the projects that I have helped build and been a part of,’ Shaun notes. He’s an engineer with an eye for design that elevates the projects he’s involved with. ‘I love the design element of engineering, and being able to visually see projects that you have worked on.’
Shaun thrives on the problem-solving nature of his job. Whether it’s on-site looking at specific details or around the table with the design team, he likes solving a complex puzzle to create the best possible outcome. ‘The fact that I get to be on-site and see the progress from start to finish, with the understanding of where almost every brick is to go and why it is needed, is why engineering beats any desk job I can think of.
