Ivor has always had a curiosity for how things work. Growing up, Ivor would take great joy in taking something apart only to then re-assemble, with (more or less!) positive results. This appreciation of the inner workings of household items and electronics gave him the confidence to fix or repair items when they broke, rather than take the easy option of replacement. It is this same attitude that Ivor relishes implementing in his structural design.
Working with and adapting existing buildings often provides a more characterful and low-carbon design than what can often be the more straightforward new-build option. He has used this approach across many projects, including schools, residential properties, and leisure buildings.
As well as looking at the big picture, Ivor particularly enjoys getting involved in the nitty gritty. A fan of getting his hands dirty, he furthered his practical experience during a four-month placement on a fiddly basement project with Walter Lilly in 2022. He enjoys zooming in on a couple of key details, looking at how key interfaces such as thermal line, service distribution and practicality of construction might influence the overall structural form.
Ivor graduated top of his class from the University of Sheffield in 2017, and outside of work he can be found either cycling, playing the piano or visiting various Championship football grounds following the mighty Oxford United.
