The working life of a structural engineer invariably involves them in a range of different projects. From new to historic buildings, residential to workplace, bridges, and sculpture. And everything in between.
Bedir is a chartered structural engineer, designer, and maker with all these project typologies in his portfolio and more. He has more than a decade’s experience and a dance card full of very satisfied clients. He also teaches at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL; with his teaching focused in bringing projects to the workshop. Whether manual woodworking and metalworking or using digital fabrication methods such as robotics and CNC, he is versed in design-to-production workflows, a firm-believer that the making process is fundamental to developing early design ideas.
In addition to his already impressive resume, Bedir is also the UK’s foremost skatepark construction engineer, having built over 25 skateparks as well as being consulted by community groups and local authorities to oversee the restoration of historic sites such as, Stockwell Skatepark, Kennington Bowl and the Hackney Bumps Community project in London.
Bedir brings a ‘design for manufacture’ approach to all of his projects, and a skillset that combines a focus on constructability with the art of collaboration between tradespeople and local communities. He’s adept at taking projects from concept design to prototyping to construction.
At our studio, he is also the practice champion and technical leader for our temporary works engineering.
