At one point in her education, Jess was tilted towards a career in architecture. But one year into her degree, she changed horse and moved to an Architectural Engineering degree in pursuit of a working life that better suited her personal strengths.
After graduation, she secured an engineering role with a small, family practice before joining Price & Myers in 2011. It was at P&M that her interest in draughting developed and where she truly learned the value of accurate, neat and informative construction drawings that communicated effectively and with clarity. As she says, ‘I was drawn to the field’.
Jess has worked on a huge range of projects. Given her background, it’s no surprise she favours working on architecturally ambitious projects. ‘Working in Revit – with its roots in parametric 3D modelling – totally clicks with me. Creating detailed drawings is something that appeals to both my creative and technical sides. I get a lot of pleasure from complex and challenging architectural projects.’
A personable and engaging communicator, Jess enjoys the dynamics of the project team and has a sound understanding of the various design disciplines as a result. She also likes working closely with contractors and clients. She counts her work with Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby on the Lambeth Palace Library as a particularly proud accomplishment.
Architecture’s loss has been engineering’s gain. ‘I’ve never looked back. I love my job’.
